Education

Moraine Valley Community College (2016-2018)

Associate of Arts (A.A.)

My decision to go to community college is one that I will always be grateful for. To be honest, I had no clue what I wanted to be when I grew up. I felt the best thing to do was stay home, and go to a school that was affordable for me and my family while I explored the different possibilities of my future. I enrolled at Moraine Valley Community College in 2016 and after 2 years transferred to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. When I initially transferred, I did not finish with a degree from MVCC. Something that did not sit well with me. I knew that in the pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree I would not be at a loss in terms of my education, but I do not enjoy starting something and not finishing it. So in the summer of 2019, I returned to Moraine Valley for a summer class that would not only give me credit to UIUC, but allow me to fulfill all of the requirements for an Associates Degree. So upon completion of the summer class, I obtained a degree in Arts.

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2018 - 2021)

Psychology (B.S.)

I graduated in May 15th, 2021 earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, with a concentration in Organizations and Industry and minor degree in Business Administration. My goal with this choice in education is to enter the field of human resources. Human resources for me became something of interest during student orientation. The advisors we met discussed the different concentrations and possibilities of a degree in psychology and Organizational/Industrial was a degree that focused on business and the culture of the workplace. Something that I found to be so interesting, a job that has the grandeur of a career in business while also helping others with conflicts, planning their futures, and recruiting others to help begin their careers.

During my junior year I served as a chairperson for the Illinois Student Government committee on Financial Affairs. Every Sunday the committee would meet, lead by the chairperson, and we would vote on propositions made by student government representatives. Some of the initiatives that we voted on include student diversity fund raisers, social awareness events, and local government initiatives. It was our responsibility to grant funding for such events, and coordinate how the funding would be issued relative to the official student government budget.
