Illinois Army National Guard

My desire to serve in the military led me to the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) in college, a program designed to develop future officers for the U.S. Armed Forces. ROTC provides students with the leadership training necessary to manage soldiers and lead military operations. It’s an opportunity to take on a managerial role immediately after college while serving in one of the most capable fighting forces in the world. For those who work hard, it also offers a path to earning a degree with little to no student debt.

I chose the Army ROTC route and, upon graduating in 2021, commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Illinois Army National Guard. Today, I serve as the Headquarters Commander of the 129th Regional Training Institute at the Illinois Military Academy in Camp Lincoln, Springfield. In this role, I oversee operations, training, and personnel within the headquarters element, ensuring the readiness of soldiers and the success of the unit’s mission.

My military experience has shaped my leadership style, discipline, and ability to manage complex personnel and operational challenges—skills that directly translate to my civilian career in human resources. Leading soldiers has reinforced my ability to think critically, make strategic decisions under pressure, and support the professional development of those I work with.
